FREE Scripture Art Download {from Psalm 33}

Psalm 33:20-22

We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
 for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.

This verse has meant a lot to me and my husband over the years. The first time I remember it “coming to life” {ie: putting this verse into action in our personal real life} was when we walked through our first miscarriage. This Psalm along with Psalm 34 carried us through. We waited with hope in the Lord, not that the baby would come back to life, but that the Lord would bring healing to our hearts and pain. We understood His presence surrounding us like a shield of protection. We trusted in His holy name, not in the situation or circumstances {though we truly could not begin to understand it}. And, ultimately, we felt His beautiful unfailing love amidst such loss and sorrow.

Over the last couple weeks I once again cling to this verse. All around me is sorrow & suffering. We are broken people living in a broken world. My friend just lost her mom to a battle with cancer {of which she fought like a champ, btw!} A 10 year old child at my kids’ school suddenly died last week & our entire community is simply heartbroken.

In the midst of the pain all we can do sometimes is wait.

We wait for God’s comfort to fill us. We wait for redemption of this fallen world. We wait for strength and healing. We wait for Heaven. And it is only because we trust in His holy name and His loving character that we can even begin to have hope amidst our sorrow.

I chose the image of the couch in the field for 2 totally different reasons:

1. That beautiful red velvet couch is where I find rest & peace so often, so to pair it in nature was natural as I also find solace in the outdoors as I drink in the beauty of God’s creation. I am reminded to to hope, find peace, be still & wait.

2. That said, an empty couch in an empty field symbolizes just that: emptiness. So often when we are walking through suffering or a trial and we are so helpless, and a part of us feels empty. Empty of control. Empty of assurance, strength or confidence. Rather we are broken, awaiting His unfailing love to fill that emptiness in a way that only our Lord can do.

This month my visual assignment for Pick Your Portion was a bit more challenging. After meditating on Luke 21, my assigned portion of the Bible, I decided to highlight some of the instruction Jesus was giving to His disciples concerning the end times. Honestly, this is a hard chapter of the Bible to swallow. It is not the encouragement we are all seeking. It is full of warnings and Jesus instructs us to not grow dull, but be on the alert… keep looking out for Him & do not get bogged down by the worries of this life. Be ready for His coming! This quote is a great reminder of truth for all of us, and I think it would be particularly cool in a boy’s room to remind him of his strength found in the Lord.

Every month I contribute my form of worship {visual art} to the Pick Your Portion blog, founded by my sweet {Tyndale author} friend, Lisa Velthouse {I got to design her book Craving Grace, as well as be the sticky cover model…go check it out!}.

Each month she sends me a list of verses to pick from & this month I was particularly excited to have the above verse on my list! I chose to create this verse as a sort of tribute to all of my friends who have adopted a little child into their home. I respect and admire them SO MUCH & this is the least I could do. Their ministry is amazing & though some of those friends are in the thick of snotty noses & sleepless nights, they ARE changing the world! I think these words spoken by Jesus are amazing. I am also partial to the photo, as it is my sweet Pumpkin-Poos sliding her hand into Daddy’s strong hand as we strolled around some local gardens. I took this photo about 3 years ago and I can still picture exactly where we were and how tender her affection is. So precious to hold the hand of a little one! She still will do this to us, though she is 6 years old & I know my days are numbered, so I will relish it while I can!

FREE Scripture Art Download {Romans 8:31-32 Ann Voskamp’s Life Verse}

2013-11-20_0001

{Art Available HERE}

Yesterday I wrote about the behind the scenes cover design of Ann Voskamp’s latest book, The Greatest Gift. In my post, I mentioned that I would be giving away a FREE 4×6 Scripture art download of HER life verse. If you studied her best selling book 1,000 Gifts, you know her life verse is Romans 8:31-32. I was so thankful I had previously created that Scripture and Tyndale allowed me to gift it to her along with this print. {And a gushing letter of how much her book has meant in my life}
